Inspired by love for his beloved a Mughal Emperor in Agra back in the 17 th century created his grand vision of the world-the Taj Mahal. This great monument of love is one of those few foremost wonders of the world that rules the heart of millions since ages. An architectural masterpiece and an emperor's passion in white marbles unmatched to any other living entity of its kind in the entire planet. Built by a great Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan, in commemoration of his wife Mumtaz, this wonderful tomb is an eternal signature of love. The stunning monument is also seen as a tribute to the grace and dignity of Indian womanhood.
Built over a period of 22 years, this majestic Mausoleum marked the culmination of many architectural splendors erected under the Mughals in India. The tomb lies on the bank of Yamuna, less than 2 km away from the emperor's palace at Red Fort. It stands on a raised square platform in sandstone roofed by a huge white marble terrace, on top of which is the famous dome, guarded by four beautiful and slender minarets. The entire building is adorned with inlaid design of flowers and calligraphy with precious gems. Inside the mausoleum the dome chambers wear a captivating look with their high ornate walls and panels.
Apart from the main tomb there are also other interesting and important attractions within the huge complex that include the main gateway, the elaborately designed garden, a mosque to the left and a guest house to the right of the tomb, and other palatial structures.
