Cubbon Park, Bangalore
Spread over acres of verdant tranquility right
in the heart of the ‘City of Gardens’ Bangalore, is
the oasis of greenery – Cubbon Park, a popular tourist attraction.
Dotted with lush green lawns, shady flowering trees, vibrant flowerbeds
and magnificent statues, the park is a perfect hunt for walkers,
joggers, lovers and seekers of peace and pleasure.
Named after the then Viceroy of India, Lord Cubbon, who laid out
the park in 1864, this treasure trove of nature also houses the
State Central Library, the High Court, and an array of institutions
like the Cheshire Dyer Memorial Hall, Ottawa Chatter, Museum, Century
Club and the Press Club.
The Central Library building, within the park, has the ‘pompeian
red’ color and architectural style of stone and fluted pillars
with walls finished in lime plaster. It houses a rare collection
of books. Near the Cubon Park is the Nehru Children Park (Bal Bhawan)
and the Aquarium with a good collection of aquatic life. The Bal
Bhawan is packed with entertainment, where you can chug around in
a toy train or simply wander about in the fore ground, take a boat
ride or trot up a pony ride.
