Visa
All foreign nationals, including children holding passports require a visa to enter India.

Visa application forms can be obtained free of charge from the Embassy. Visa Fees are non-refundable and subject to change. Visa can be applied for in person or by post at the Embassy of India, Copenhagen. Visa applications from persons not ordinarily residing in Denmark may take longer processing time. Visa fee indicated below is in respect of Danish passport holders only. Other nationals may ascertain visa fee from the Embassy.

Visitors to restricted/protected areas need special permits and for this purpose an additional form has to be completed. Please contact the Embassy if you wish to ascertain whether any of the places you intend to visit fall in the category of restricted/protected areas. Application for the permit has to be submitted in the prescribed form along with the visa application.

Specific visas are granted for a variety of purposes. The principal types of visas issued are mentioned below. Please contact the Embassy of India for further details if you are visiting India for purposes other than tourism, such as journalism, conferences, studying, training, yoga, voluntary work, mountaineering or other expeditions. The processing time for issue of visas for the above mentioned categories is longer than normal and applicants are advised to apply well in advance along with all requisite documents, well in advance.

The validity of all types of visa starts from the date of issue and is valid until the expiry date indicated on the visa.

Foreign nationals (other than US nationals holding 10 year tourist/business visas) holding visa for a period of more than 180 days are required to get themselves registered with the concerned Foreigner's Regional Registration Office (FRRO) within 14 days of their first arrival in India. Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) card holders are, however, required to get themselves registered with the FRRO within 30 days of the expiry of 180 days if their continuous stay in India exceeds 180 days. A penal fee of US$ 30.00, over and above the visa fees, will be charged by the concerned FRRO, in case of non-registration on time and for overstay in India beyond the validity of visa.

Requirements for visas
· Original passport valid for at least 2 months more that the period of visa required. Passport should have at least 2 blank pages for affixing the visa.
· One passport size recent photograph.
· Correct visa fees. Fees can be paid by cash or cheque at the Visa counter or by cheque through post. Cheques may be drawn in favour of EMBASSY OF INDIA, COPENHAGEN. An extra fee of DKK 50/- per cheque should be included for cheques issued in Greenland or the Faroe Islands.
· A self addressed envelope with sufficient postal stamps may be enclosed in case the applicant desires return of passport through post. The Embassy prefers returning passports through Registered Post.
· Supporting documents, where necessary.
· Duly completed application form.
Tourist Visa
Tourists wishing to visit India will normally be granted tourist visas for up to six months, with multiple entry effective from the date of issue. Tourist visas are non-extendable and non-convertible. The current fees for this category of visa is DKK. 345.00 .
Business Visa
Businessmen or Employees of a company representing the company visiting India for the purposes of business are issued Business Visa. Normally visas are issued for the requested period or a maximum period of one year. Fees for a period of up to six months is DKK 345.00 and period beyond six months up to one year is DKK 560.00. A letter from the Danish company undertaking responsibility, including financial, of the person representing the company is also required along with the visa application form. In case of Visas for more than six months and up to one year, a letter of invitation from an Indian company is also required to be submitted.

Business visas for longer duration are issued on a case to case basis where the application is accompanied by details of business relations with the Indian company (ies), including documentary proof of financial transactions, letter (s) of recommendation from the Indian Company (ies), the frequency of visit to India and a brief profile of the Danish company.
Transit Visa
Persons travelling through India to a third country may apply for Transit Visa. Transit visas are valid for halts of up to 72 hours in India within 15 days from the date of issue of the visa and must be obtained before departure. Transit visas cannot be obtained from immigration counters at port of entry in India. Evidence of onward travel to a third country from India, such as a confirmed air ticket, is required.
Student Visa
Student visas are issued for the duration of the academic course of study or for a period of five years whichever is less, on the basis of firm letters of admission from Universities/ recognised colleges or educational institutions in India. Change of purpose and institutions are not permissible. As processing student visas take longer time, students applying for visas to study in India are advised to apply well in advance.
Journalist Visa
Journalist visas are issued to professional journalists and photographers for visiting India. The applicants may contact on arrival in New Delhi, the External Publicity Division of the Ministry of External Affairs and in other places, the Office of the Government of India's Press Information Bureaus. Journalist visas are issued for a period up to 3 months with single or double entry. Prior approval of the Government of India is required for producing a documentary film/feature film in India. Details may be obtained from the Embassy. As prior approval of the Government of India is required for such visas, applicants are advised to apply well in advance.
Employment Visa
Employment visas are issued to skilled and qualified professionals or persons who are engaged or appointed by companies, organisations, economic undertakings on employment in very senior level or skilled positions such as technicians, technical experts, senior executives etc. Applicants are required to submit proof of contract/ employment/ engagement of foreign nationals by the company or organisation and such other document (s) that the Embassy may require.
Conference Visa
Conference visas are issued for attending conferences/ seminars /meetings in India. A letter of invitation from the organiser of the conference is to be submitted along with the visa application. Issue of visa is subject to the approval of the Government of India for holding such conferences. Delegates coming to attend conferences may combine tourism with attending conferences.

As processing of conference visas take longer time, applicants applying for such visas are advised to apply well in advance with full particulars and all necessary documents pertaining to their participation in the conference.
