Udaipur is a regal delight in the oasis of desert. Located in the central part of Mewar-kingdom associated with many legends, the history of Udaipur revolves around an interesting tale. Once the Maharana of Mewar met a hermit absorbed in meditation on top of a hillock. The hermit gave his blessing to the Maharana and advised him to built a capital on the very spot he was sitting as it will bring fortune and advantages. In 1550 AD a new city was built on the bank of beautiful Lake Pichola, which became the jewel of Rajasthan and one of the popular desert destination worth visiting.
The City Palace, overlooking the splendid lake Pichola, is the primary attraction in Udaipur. Nestled on top of a majestic hill, the palace offers a fine blend Medieval European and Chinese architecture. This vast structure of granite and marble is a treasure trove of many splendors in the form of resplendent courtyards, fountains and buildings, with beautiful balconies, towers and cupolas. The interiors of the buildings are treated with lavish marble and mirror works, frescoes and wall paintings.
