Manali
The ancient and idyllic town of Manali is if anything
is a paradise on Earth, endowed with rugged grandeur, natural beauty,
adventure and mystery. An ideal retreat for those who want to escape
the heat of summer amidst lush green meadows and forests, brooks
and waterfalls. Located at a distance of forty kilometers from Kullu,
this soothing valley overlooks alluring snow-capped peaks of the
great Himalayan range. With the beautiful Bees River meandering
through the valley on one side, and orchards of deodar, pine and
fruit on the other, Manali is one of the most favored hill destinations
in the country.
Manali has all the amenities to meet the needs of modern tourist
like bungalows, log huts, cottages and good restaurants. Its fabulous
countryside is ideal for hiking, skiing, trekking, para gliding,
hand gliding, jeep safari and other adventure sports. The town is
also an ideal hideout for honeymooners.
There is a kind of spirituality attached to this land. Legend has
it that once when the world was drowned in flood, the mythological
character ‘Manu’ came to Manali and recreated human
life. The temples here are treated as great pilgrimage by the Hindus
from all over the country.
