Haridwar
Imagine a land that holds the key to ultimate salvation;
a place that leads to the kingdom of Gods’; where the sacred
Ganges flows from the mountains and gently rolls over the meadows,
purifying every soul she touched by on her way to the mighty Bay
of Bengal. Where the night illuminates with thousands and thousands
of earthen lamps floating on the riverbed; and where every soul
seeks for the ultimate purification. A land very much a part of
this mundane world- Haridwar, literally, the ‘gateway to The
Gods’, invites you to share a moment with the divine.
One of the oldest living cities that find mentioned in the ancient
Hindu scriptures. The city of Haridwar is the starting point of
your divine journey from where you will be able to tour the sacred
sources of the Ganges. It is the only place of its kind where you
can witness the biggest and the most sacred of all the melas, the
Kumbh Mela.
Elevate your soul by taking a dip in one of the most sacred spot,
the Har-Ki- Pauri Ghat (the footstep of God), also referred to as
Brahmakund. Situated on the bank of the Ganges, the Ghat is a gift
of king Vikramaditya, who built it in the memory of his brother,
Bhartrihari. In the evening thousands of devotee flock here to take
a holy bathe. Close to the Ghat stands another important landmark
of Haridwar, the Gangadhar Temple, one of the highly regarded temples
in the town.
A little bit of trekking on the hills will bring you nearer to the
famous temple of Goddess Mansa- the Mansa Devi Temple. You can also
reach the temple by ropeway inside brightly colored cable cars.
Visit Chandi Devi, another temple of great importance, on top of
a hill called Neel Parvat. Besides, the temple of Maya Devi, Bhatrat
Mata Temple, Daksha Mahadev Temple and Vaishno Devi Temple are some
of the important temples worth visiting.
