Delhi
The capital city of Delhi unwinds a picture rich
with history, culture, architecture and human diversity. Dotted
with a long chain of monuments, museums, galleries, gardens and
shopping complexes, Delhi is a treasure trove of the old and the
new. The city is the travel hub of North India and is well connected
by rail, air and road to all the important destinations of India.
It comprises of two contrasting yet harmonious parts – the
Old Delhi and New Delhi.
Take a walk across the labyrinthine streets of Old Delhi flanked
by formidable mosques, monuments, forts and lively bazaars amidst
a barely controlled chaotic ambience. The place stands witnessed
to the age-old glory of the Mughals who used to rule India from
here. Visit the impregnable fortress ‘the Red Fort’,
the erstwhile Mughal capital and the biggest living monument in
Delhi. Inside the fort are the enchanting palaces, audience halls
and courtyards narrating tales of a great past. The Jama Masjid
is another interesting site to see in Old Delhi. It is one of the
largest mosques in India and the final architectural masterpiece
of the great Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan.
New Delhi reflects the charm and splendor of British Raj. It is
a meticulously designed city dotted with magnificent colonial buildings,
spacious streets flanked by beautifully lined avenues of trees,
exotic gardens, galleries, monuments, imposing government buildings,
skyscrapers and shopping complexes. Some major monumental attractions
include the Old Fort, Humayun’s Tomb, India Gate, Lotus Temple
and Qutub Minar.
