Bharatpur
Set in between two important historical cities
of India, is the town of Bharatpur an ornithologist paradise and
gateway to one of the world famous water bird sanctuary. The town
is also renowned for its splendid forts, palaces and museums and
forms the eastern entrance to romantic Rajasthan.
Bharatpur is popularly known for its avian kingdom –the Keoladeo
Ghana National Park. It presents one of the largest concentrations
of birds in Asia. Once a favorite hunting preserve of the Bharatpur
Maharaja, this wet land eco-system attracts hoards of waterfowls
and migratory birds every year. Out of the many avian migrants here,
the Siberian Crane is a great attraction among visitors. Animals
like sambar, chital, nilgai and boar, are also seen in the area.
Another major attraction of the town is the magnificent ruins of
Bharatpur Fort, where one can revisit the erstwhile Rajput and Mughal
architectural splendors. The main sites to see in this former settlement
of a Jat chieftian include the majestic palace and in –house
museum that unwinds a host of weapons used by the rulers of that
time.
